The Movement Movement is an independent print magazine and collective for all women and non-binary people to celebrate movement in all its forms, from professional sport to whatever ways we move in our everyday lives. It’s a magazine, an agency, a community, a dreamspace, a feeling.

TMM spotlights bold and refreshing conversations in sport – all while working to progress to a more accessible, inclusive and interesting space in sports media. The outcome is a continued stream of transformative and vital global conversations on identity, gender, sexuality, relationships, race, body image, disabilities, chronic illness, success, failure, pain, the unknown, and beyond.

We launched our issue 00 in spring 2021, with issue 01 following in 2024.
Issue 02 is currently underway.

  • In 2023, women’s sports coverage was reported to make up 15% by The Collective®, while the International Sports Press Survey 2011 found that only 8% of their analysed sports articles were written by women. TMM is a project working to counterbalance that — platforming women and non-binary folk’s stories and created by women and non-binary folk themselves. The result is not only change, but stories that are curious, expansive and fearlessly honest.

  • Funding for a project like this doesn’t exist, which is why it desperately needs to happen. We started off with a kickstarter back in 2021 – and have since continued to be self-funded.

  • The Movement Movement moves away from the restrictive and often elitist language tied up with “sport”, and aims to explore movement in all its forms — from professional sport to all the ways we move in our day-to-day lives. The result is a broader, bolder and braver conversation.
